The UK’s largest plus size fashion event took place in Liverpool on the weekend. The Curve Fashion Festival celebrates plus size fashion and visitors flocked from around the country to enjoy a day dedicated to the fuller figure. The event hosted dozens of sought-after fashion brands who revealed their AW16 trends on the runway. With the promise of celebrity appearances, panel discussions, shopping and a curvy catwalk, visitors were not disappointed.
Which Brands Attended?
The pop-up shops dotted around the Curve Fashion Festival were owned by some of the biggest names in plus size fashion. All the high street retailers like River Island, New Look, Simply Be & Boohoo were there to promote their plus size ranges.
Who Were the Celebrity Guests?
The celebrity guest that stole the show was Tess Holliday, the first [UK] size 26 model. She showed off her figure in a pink and black, striped outfit (yes, striped), from JC Penny’s Boutique+ collection. With black, strappy heels, a fishtail plait and lashes to die for, she looked the part.
Also whipping up excitement was this year’s face of the Curve Fashion Festival, Hayley Hasselhoff (Baywatch heartthrob David Hasselhoff’s daughter).
Showcasing her collection for Elvi’s AW16 catalogue, she commented that her fashion line is “simplistic, minimalistic, sophisticated and timeless.”
Plus size bloggers Callie Thorpe, Danielle Vanier and Georgina Horne also made waves on the scene and on social media and Georgina Grogan attended in a beautiful floral gown. Visitors were thrilled to see their online fashion idols in the flesh and even get the chance to talk to the blogging sensations.
What Was The Runway Like?
Onlookers admired the fashion designers’ latest looks for AW16 and watched in awe as confident, gorgeous plus size models strutted up and down the runway. Plus size models included Sian Yapp, who presented Curvy Convention, Danielle Gardiner, due to model in the Ibiza Fashion Festival next weekend and Eva Believer, to name a few.
The models showing off the latest trends on curves is an important part of the Curve Fashion Festival – and an important event for the plus size community. The runway proves that curvy women of all shapes and sizes not only deserve to have trendy fashion made in their size, but also deserve to see it modelled on real catwalks by real women. Inspiring confidence and exhibiting fashion that is actually wearable for the plus size community, the runway was a true highlight of the day.
The trends were on point and the crowds were impressed and inspired.
